Each year, a committee of teachers, librarians, parents and students starts with a list of about 125 children's books and 250 picture books published in the last year, and reads, evaluates and weeds that list down to the best ten in each category. Students around the state read those ten books and then vote on their favorite. The winners are honored at an author luncheon in the Spring and awarded the South Carolina Picture or Children's Book Award. This list is an amazing resource for parents and teachers because it represents the top ten percent of books from that year. Below are last years winners and the contenders for this year. If students read at least five picture books or three children's books, they are eligible to cast their vote March 1st for their favorite!
